The average Australian eats more than 89 kilograms of meat per year. In 2015 the World Health Organisation announced that processed meat was carcinogenic, and that consumption of red meat is "probably carcinogenic" to humans. Eight years after that announcement, there's a massive market for plant-based meats: black bean beetroot burgers or sweet potato patties. Vegetarians in Australia now range around 2.5 million people for ethical and environmental reasons.

Professor Luigi Fontana, scientific director of the Charles Perkins Centre RPA Clinic and Healthy Longevity Program of the University of Sydney, joined Philip Clark on Nightlife to discuss a diet of meat versus veggies. Also, the weight loss drug Ozempic and how to adjust your diet for colder weather.
