Glenn 'back to normal' after shuttle flight

US space pioneer John Glenn has declared himself 98 per cent back to normal, a day after returning from a nine-day mission aboard the space shuttle Discovery.

The world's oldest astronaut declined to compare his most recent flight to his historic first stay in orbit in 1962, insisting that there is not one more satisfying than another.

Senator Glenn and his fellow shuttle astronauts will undergo two weeks of medical tests aimed at completing the many scientific experiments conducted in orbit on the effects of ageing and zero-gravity.

Senator Glenn suggested his second space flight will probably be his last.

He also admitted he was a little wobbly on his feet for a while after the shuttle landed.
