It's going to be a big year in politics with four elections around the country likely in the space of 12 months.

One of those watching on with great interest from the sidelines is the former senior political journalist and Liberal staffer Niki Savva.

Her memoir So Greek: Confessions of a conservative leftie, tells the story of why she made the leap from reporting politics at the highest level to first working as Peter Costello's press secretary, and later in the cabinet policy unit under former prime minister John Howard.
