My School launch

Despite opposition from teacher unions, the federal government's My School website is now up and running. There were teething problems for the first few hours, but by mid morning the site was working smoothly.

The site shows how individual schools perform on national literacy and numeracy tests and allows you to compare your school with similar schools in the local area and nationally.

The federal Education Minister Julia Gillard believes that parents want this information to make sure their child is getting a quality education.

Education columnist Maralyn Parker had a frustrating few hours early this morning but gleaned some interesting comparative information while parent Charles Alder managed to use the site successfully. He gave us his view how it represented his school.
