First Person - First Lady - Ep 13 (Final)
There's now less than two days to go and just over 30 miles to cover before Kay's entry into Sydney Harbour, making history as the first woman to to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world. As Kay draws closer to the deadline though it looks as though she may come in ahead of time. Unfortunately not all the official guest have arrived as yet.
At the end of her voyage, Kay Cottee was named the 1988 Bicentennial Australian of the Year. She also became an Officer of the Order of Australia. She was also the first Australian and second only recipient of the Cutty Sark Medal presented by the Duke of Edinburgh. These were just a few of the many awards bestowed upon her.
Kay Cottee read from her book "First Lady", published by MacMillan Australia. It was abridged and produced for the ABC by Lindy Raine.
