About 100 Sydney Harbour fishermen and their families from today will learn the results of blood testing for dioxin contamination.

The test results have been reviewed by an expert panel.

It has been an anxious seven-week wait for Mark Forrester and his family.

The commercial fisherman and his wife and two children were tested by New South Wales Health for dioxin contamination.

The tests were ordered after an investigation by ABC TV's The 7.30 Report found other fishing families had dangerously high dioxin levels in their blood.

"Everyone's a bit worried because over the past years there's been quite a few of the fisherman have died of cancers," Mr Forrester said.

State Health Minister John Hatzistergos will not reveal how high the dioxin levels were, but says the panel believes at the levels found it is not possible to predict the health effects.

"They are not an indicator of a health risk," he said.

The panel says there is no need for more clinical tests.
